Ciarrocca, Mary Obituary

Mary J. Ciampa Ciarrocca of Rockhill Furnace, PA, passed peacefully of natural causes on May 25, 2014 at age 96.   Mary lived in the Southern Huntingdon County area her entire life being born April 8, 1918, to the late Alderico and Sofia Ciampa in Robertsdale, Pennsylvania,  and growing up on their farm near Shirleysburg in the area known as Saddleback.  She married Angelo L. Ciarrocca in 1933 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shade Gap, Pennsylvania, where they continued as members.  Angelo and Mary lived most of their married life in Rockhill Furnace where they raised their family.

She is survived by her five children:  Carmen Ciarrocca (Mary Louise) of Mechanicsburg, PA; Rosemary Ciarrocca Lecluse of Nieuwegein, The Netherlands; Tony Ciarrocca (Nelma) of Laurinburg, North Carolina; Angelo S. Ciarrocca (Betty) of Fayetteville, PA; and Karen Ciarrocca Markle (Dana) of Oakfield, NY.  She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews with extended families.  Fred and Kristi House being close neighbors, good friends, caregivers and companions, became part of her family.

Mary was pre-deceased by her husband, Angelo, in 1982, a granddaughter, Jacqueline Lecluse, and daughter-in-law, Patricia K. Ciarrocca.   She was also predeceased by her brothers, Joseph Ciampa of Huntingdon, PA, Panfilo (Pompey) Ciampa of Baltimore, Maryland, Michael Ciampa of Huntingdon, PA (formerly of Shirleysburg RD), John Ciampa of Robertsdale, PA, (formerly of Baltimore, Maryland), and Valentino (Walley) Champa of Mill Creek, PA (formerly of Lancaster, PA).

Mary always placed family first.  Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Mary worked at the Grief Brothers sewing factory in Mount Union and then later at the sewing factory in Rockhill Furnace before retiring.  She had been a member of the Ladies Guild of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Homemaker's Group of Shirleysburg.  She loved cooking for family get-togethers, baking, crocheting, and gardening.  She loved when her family came to visit and all were welcome at any time to share in what ever she had to offer.  She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens up until the last several years of her life.

While she was able, she also enjoyed traveling and visiting with her children and grandchildren including attending her grandsons, Michael and Timothy's weddings in Europe and accompanying a granddaughter, Katie on her senior trip to Italy.  Her fear of flying was diminished only by the joy she experienced during her travels with those she loved.  Mary's kindness, wisdom and love went far beyond family.  Mary became a mother and grandmother to many she met along the way, always willing to lend a hand, give a hug, or lend an ear.

Mary will be remembered for her strength and guidance, her unselfish giving and nurturing love, care and concern for her family and friends, and her very strong will.  She will be missed.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 30th at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 20896 Croghan Pike, Orbisonia, PA, 17243-9000, with Father Joseph Nale officiating.  Interment will be made at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, adjacent to the Church.  Friends may call at the Martin R.
