Ophelia W. Brady
August 27, 1924 - March 31, 2012
Ophelia W. Brady entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 31, 2012. She was born on August 27, 1924 in Auburn, Alabama to the late Julius and Mattie Foster Whittaker. She attended the Auburn Public School System and upon graduation in the early 1950s, moved to Alexandria, Virginia to be near her aunt Margaret. Ophelia devoted her life to Christ, joining the Ebenezer Baptist Church of Alexandria, Virginia. She started her career working in the Torpedo Factory of Alexandria then later, following her love for children she became a nanny, raising several children with whom she remained in contact.
Ophelia was full of life and had lots of spirit. She was a fashion trendsetter who loved creating her own “style”. She was always willing to give anyone who would listen, “relationship” advice. She loved reading the daily newspaper and buying lottery scratch offs. She will truly be missed by family and friends.
Ms. Brady is preceded in death by her sister, Annie Foster Whittaker. She leaves to cherish her memories, her son; Robert “Bobby” Hutchinson, daughter-in-law; Roxie Hutchinson, granddaughter; Roslyn Hutchinson-Turner, four aunts; Lucille Hutchings, Elizabeth Jackson both of Detroit, Michigan, Mary Foster and Elsie Mitchell both of Auburn, Alabama. One nephew; George Whittaker (Nadine), three cousins; Leroy Smith (Jewel), Judy Battiste (Luther), Danny Mitchell and god-daughter; Tammy Cornelius, a devoted friend; Ulysses William plus a host of other relatives.
The viewing and visitation will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 909 Queen Street, Alexandria, Virginia (map/directions) on Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 10:30 A.M. until time of service at 11:30. Interment, Mt. Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria, Virginia (map/directions). Arrangements by Phillip Bell Sr. and Winona Morrissette-Johnson, P.A.
