Berry, William Obituary

                                        Life and Legacy of
                                        William Powell Berry

“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under the sun…”
Ecclesiastes 3:1

“A time to be born...”
On March 17, 1935, William Powell Berry was born to the late George and Grace Berry of Lynchburg, VA. He attended Alexandria City public schools. He spent over 60 years in the retail, bookkeeping and accounting industries, working for Hayman’s clothing, Ralph Lauren clothing, W. Bell & Co, Best Co. and Ross.

“A time to embrace…”
William embraced life, had an infectious smile on his face and kind words of encouragement for everyone he met. He loved cooking, sewing, and being around his family and friends. He was an avid reader and found great joy in playing jokes on family members and friends. William loved life itself, living it to the fullest, despite his ongoing illness.

“A time to die…”
On August 26, 2011 at his home, God knew that William was tired and called him home to be with him, free from all cares and pain.

“A time to mourn…”
William joins those who preceded him in death, a loving sister; Lottie E. Hollins and brother; George Berry Jr. Those sadden by his passing left to cherish his memory are, brothers; Levester Berry Sr. and Wallace Berry; a sister-in-law, Carrie R. Berry; nieces; Doris Davis, Betty L. Payne and Wanda Berry; nephews, Charles Hollins, George D. Hollins and Levester Berry Jr.; great nieces, Robin Wright, Rita Simms, Donna Lockhart and Charlene Hollins; Godchildren, William T. Berry, Brock Harper and Bonnie Bradley plus a host of great nieces, great nephews other relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you, their love and appreciation to his great niece, Rita “Missy” Simms. “Knowing you were there gave us great comfort.”

God saw the road was getting rough-the hills were hard to climb, He gently closed those weary eyes and whispered “Peace be Thine”. The weary hours, the days of pain, the sleepless nights have passed. The restless tired and worn-out frame has found sweet rest.
