Carl August Berg, 86, of Milford, PA went to be with his Lord on February 25, 2017, after a brave battle with cancer.
Born November 29, 1930 in Bayonne, NJ, he moved to Staten Island, NY in 1944 and graduated from McKee Vocational and Technical High School in 1948. Carl attended the US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY, earning a Bachelor’s of Science degree in marine engineering in 1952.
He worked for Merritt, Chapman and Scott as a marine engineer on salvage operations. He subsequently served in the US Navy on the newly commissioned destroyer, USS Decatur, DD936 as assistant engineering officer from August 1956 until August 1958. Carl also worked for the New York Telephone Company for about 35 years in various engineering and executive positions before retiring as a division manager in May 1990. He then worked several years as a consultant in Puerto Rico and South Korea. After this he entered the ministry and served with the Christian and Missionary Alliance as a pastor in four different congregations in Eastern PA retiring in 2011. The last church he served in was Country Alliance Church in Clarks Summit, PA where he continued to serve in various positions including the Elder Board, Board of Ministries and taught bible classes until the present time.
Carl enjoyed many activities alongside his wife, including membership in the Gideons International from 1977 until 1996, serving in various capacities. He served as a board member for a few years of Country Ark Farms in Milford, PA. Hobbies included winter sports, golf, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Carl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan A. Berg (Johnsen), his five children; Janet Delph (Berg) and her husband Dan of Euless, TX, David Berg and his wife Stefanie of Susquehanna, PA, Joan Isemann (Berg) and her husband John of Long Valley, NJ, John Berg and his wife Enid of Dingmans Ferry, Pa and Ellyn Vandergoot (Berg) and her husband Chris Vandergoot of Huron, OH, 14 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He is also survived by his sister, Anna Victoria Korpan and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends may call at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 West Harford St., Milford, PA on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be held at Mendham Hills Community Church, 480 Route 24, Chester, NJ on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 3 PM. Burial will be in Milford Cemetery, Dingman Township, PA private at the convenience of the family.
