Edgar Almquist of Milford, PA passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at home.  He was born on November 24, 1921 in Zim, Minnesota, the son of the late Vivian and Edgar Almquist.  He was married to Marion Black Almquist who predeceased him.

He served in the US Maritime Service from 1943 – 1947 and a veteran of World War II.  In 1947, he moved to Milford, PA creating Almquist Engineering, Sparkomatic Corporation and Offy Products through 1965, inventing over 100 products for the automotive industry, earning seven US granted patents and four foreign patents.

Following the sale of Almquist Engineering and Sparkomatic Corporation, he continued automotive consultation, product development, manufacturing, and authored a book entitled Hot Rod Pioneers, a history of the innovators of the automotive industry.  

He was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church, the Milford Community House Board of Directors, Milford/Matamoras Rotary, Maritime Veterans, and the Historical Committee of Society of Automotive Engineers.

Surviving family include sons Richard and Jon Almquist, daughter Gretchen Copeland, daughter-in-law Stephanie Almquist, son-in-law Lowell Copeland and grandchildren Adam Almquist Copeland, Dana Marianne Copeland, Ryan and Devon Almquist.

Private interment will take place at the Milford Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 315 Harford St, Milford, or the Milford United Methodist Church, 206 E. Ann St. Milford, PA.
